Training Program for Tourism Guides
District Tourism Promotion Council, Wayanad (DTPC) is organizing a training program for youth aimed at imparting necessary skills to work as ‘tourist guides’ in the district. Dominated by the Western Ghats, one of the world's last surviving tracts of tropical biodiversity, Wayanad's terrain is characterised by extensive streches of wilderness.

The Tribes of Wayanad
Wayanad has the largest population of aborigine people in Kerala. They belong to different distinctive tribes, of which the principal ones are Adiyar, Kurichyar, Paniyar, Kurumar and Kattunaikar.
Many of the tribes are traditionally forest dwellers, and as such have perfected ways of living in harmony with nature. Some tribes are also proficient in techniques of organised farming.
